The Gift of In Home Euthanasia
There is never a good time to make the decision to say goodbye to your beloved companion. We go through the conversations of quality of life and trying to point out all of the good things our pets are doing to try and offset the fact that they are just not doing well at all anymore. It’s heartbreaking to watch someone you love so dearly struggle. You don’t want them to be in pain anymore, but how do you just make the decision to say goodbye?
Then there comes the details. How will I get my 100 pound lab into the car? He can’t walk anymore. My cat is so scared of the vet’s office- she has such anxiety as soon as we get in the car. How can I bring myself to take my sweet pup on their last drive?
Euthanasia is never easy, but being able to have your animal humanely put down in the comfort of their own home is a wonderful option in a time of such pain. When the time comes, only you will know when that is, we are able to come to your home and help you say goodbye. In home euthanasia gives you the opportunity to save the stressful drive and anxiety filled wait in the lobby and spend your final time with your pet in the place that you two share.
Oftentimes when we arrive to a home to perform euthanasia, the animal is laying in their favorite spot. They are content and where they feel most safe. Most of the details will have been sorted out prior to our appointment so that you can spend this time focusing on your loved one and saying goodbye. You veterinarian will administer a sedation to ensure that they do not feel anything and are at peace at the time of passing- your job is to just be there and focus on your pet.
It sounds weird to consider anything involving euthanasia, or the death of a loved one, a gift, but to be able to experience the inevitable in a stress free environment in the place your pet is most comfortable is one of the best options we can offer them. especially when all other options have been exhausted and we are at the point of needing to say goodbye.
As a small, family owned practice, we care so much for our clients and their families and hope to make all stages of your animal’s life a wonderful experience. The least we can do for this final stage is meet you where you are at and show up for your pet one last time in the peace and comfort of their own home.
If you are concerned about your animal’s quality of life or seemingly deteriorating health, please contact us so that we can discuss your concerns further and see what all of the options are.
